Entrouvrir

public practice around En fanfaaare! (With a Baaang!)

Since her residencies in museums with the project Dancing Museums, Tatiana Julien has been initiating hybrid forms for sharing dance—making its orality and modes of transmission performative and documentary. She brings into the public realm practices usually confined to the privacy of the studio, allowing glimpses of their spectacular, sensory, and political dimensions.

In 2022, she created La Cité (éphémère) de la danse—an event built around performances that included the audience in a sensory experience, transforming the ways works are received. In short, a gathering of spectacular workshops or laboratory performances in search of new modes of address.

With ENTROUVRIR, she invites the public to become sensitive, curious, and empathetic witnesses to a physical practice shared by around fifty participants. Drawing on the choreographic materials of her latest creation En Fanfaaare!—the jolt, the tremor, the impulse to act, listening between individuals—she carries the group into a torrent of words, inviting bodies to let go into a flow of almost involuntary gestures.

Accompanied live by musician and performer Gaspard Guilbert on electronics, the experience invites the crowd into a form of present-tense crossing, revealing diverse bodies attuned to a shared imaginary.

ENTROUVRIR is a spectacular workshop beyond walls and beyond habits. Its form is renewed with each group and each site. It is prepared through a workshop held in advance with a small portion of the participants, making them—each in their own way—influential within the crowd, accomplices in a collective movement.

And then, amid moments of generalized drowsiness, sung-and-danced solos by the performers of En Fanfaaare! may emerge, revealed in a new light—where mediation itself becomes performance.
